Gateway has been helping the people of Jacksonville for more than four decades! From their beginnings with a 12-step program for individuals struggling with alcohol addiction, the Gateway Community family has been committed to helping their neighbors recover and thrive from mental health, substance use disorders, and chemical addictions. The services and programs offered by Gateway have continued to grow – now including recovery housing, detox, individual and family counseling, smoking cessation, and more.
Rico Bodin, LMHC MCAP, is the Director of Recovery Connections at Gateway. Gateway Community Services made the choice to select eTransX’ Opioid Care Community to be the operational backbone for their Project Save Lives embedded emergency department program which began as a pilot in 2017. Through his years of experience working both as a counselor and as a program manager, Mr. Bodin understands the need for a functional system from a peer support perspective as well from the viewpoint of an administrator needing to coordinate, track, and report data on staff activities and client outcomes.
Rico explains: “Our Peer Support Specialists work in seven (7) different emergency departments, using the software on iPads and laptops to help with immediate treatment and recovery program enrollment and coordinating transitional care before discharge from mental health and substance use crises. The Find-A-Bed feature of the Opioid Care Community saves us endless hours of phone calls and encrypted emailing by having instant access to comprehensive treatment information about bed available for people in need with providers across our community.”
Rico and his team have achieved great success with the Project Save Lives initiative, driving significant reductions in relapse and emergency department admissions for clients who have enrolled in the program. In fact, the program’s success is being recognized in the area as more local hospitals and organizations continue to join since moving beyond the program pilot.
